Fayette to Host Inaugural "Think Pink" and "Coaches vs. Cancer" Games
Penn State Fayette athletics and the Student-Athlete Advisory Board are partnering together to host their inaugural "American Cancer Society Coaches vs. Cancer and Think Pink" fundraising event on Wednesday, Feb. 8, as the men's and women's basketball teams host Penn State Greater Allegheny in a Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference Western Division match-up.
The Roaring Lions women's team hosts their rival at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Center Main Arena, with the men's game scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Greater Pittsburgh chapter of the American Cancer Society, and will directly benefit local cancer programs, services and research. Proceeds will be split between breast cancer awareness through the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" initiative and general cancer research through the "Coaches vs. Cancer" fund. Currently, the American Cancer Society funds more than $14 million in research grants to Penn State University, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.
During the women's game, and in honor of those currently battling breast cancer, breast cancer survivors and those we have lost, the women's game will be played with a pink and white paneled basketball, and players will wear pink socks, shoelaces and apparel. The men's game will feature a commemorative "Coaches vs. Cancer" basketball, blue and orange shoelaces, and other apparel to celebrate the lives of everyone who cancer has affected through the years.
Admission for the event will be $5 for adults. Children under the age of 14 will be admitted free. Fans will receive a pink ribbon and a donation card to complete upon entry. Also available will be official "Coaches vs. Cancer" and "Think Pink" apparel, 50/50 drawings, and various raffles, including two free tickets to a Pittsburgh Pirates game.
In conjunction with the games, Penn State Fayette students are invited to join Student Activities in an '80's themed pre-game tailgate with free food, music and giveaways. Students dressed in '80's style clothing will automatically be given a mini-ball which will be used to determine the winner of a $250 student giveaway. Penn State Fayette students who are not dressed in '80's apparel can enter the contest by purchasing a $1 donation card and making a $1 donation to THON. Admission to the games for Penn State Fayette students is free.
Both games will be broadcast live on radio station 590 AM WMBS. Armstrong Cable will televise both games on a tape delay. Check your local listings for more information.
