Visiting Haitian musical artist and cello instructor Fabienne Fanord (left) and Dr. Linda Jennings, assistant professor of music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, play cellos during a recent presentation featuring the music and culture of Haiti at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. The “Music Beyond Mountains” program provided information and insight into the history of Haiti and the importance of art of all kinds, including musical arts, to the culture of that small Caribbean nation. Fanord is associated with St. Trinity School, the primary musical center in Port au Prince, where she is a member of the orchestra and teaches many students. Dr. Jennings regularly travels to Haiti to study its culture and also to teach young musicians in the string program in Jacmel, Haiti. The “Music Beyond Mountains” program was part of the season-long Vive la France celebration at Penn State Fayette.
