Penn State Fayette to host PSUAC volleyball championship

Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus will play host to the 2008 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship Oct. 18 and 19 at the school’s Community Center Main Arena.

The single elimination tournament will begin with quarterfinal round games Oct. 18 and conclude with the semifinals and finals on Oct. 19.

Fayette (18-3, 16-1) and ranked eighth in the latest United States Collegiate Athletic Conference coaches’ poll, is the No. 1 seed in the tournament, and will begin play Saturday at 4:45 p.m. with a quarterfinal matchup with the No. 8 seed, either Penn State Brandywine or Penn State New Kensington.

The tournament gets started with Penn State Beaver playing Penn State York at noon, followed by Penn College of Technology playing Penn State Schuylkill at 1:45 p.m.

Quarterfinal action continues at 3:15 p.m. with Penn State Mont Alto playing the No. 7 seed, either Penn State Brandywine or Penn State New Kensington.

Semifinal action begins on Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. with the Fayette-Brandywine/New Kensington winner playing the Beaver-York winner. The second semifinal begins at 12:45 p.m. with the Penn College-Schuylkill winner facing the Mont Alto-Brandywine/New Kensington winner.

The semifinal winners will face off in the championship game at 3 p.m. The PSUAC champion will receive an automatic berth in the USCAA National Volleyball Championship in Decatur, Ill., Oct. 24-26.

The public is invited. Admission is free.
