Convocation welcomes new students
Nearly five dozen new incoming students, joined by their family and friends, participated in a formal ceremony at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus Thursday evening, August 21. In its second year, Penn State Fayette’s Convocation ceremony celebrates the milestone of new incoming students joining the campus’ community of learners. It also affirms the campus’ mission to support and encourage all students to achieve their potential for success.
Beginning a new tradition this year, the incoming students signed their names into a Matriculation Book—indelibly entering their names into Penn State Fayette’s history. They also received a “golden key to success,” which is designed to serve as a constant reminder of their choice to partner with Penn State Fayette to help ensure their future success. As part of the ceremony, students recited: “This is my key to success. My aspiration, dedication and excellence at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus will turn the key. The door to my dreams is mine to open!”
Penn State Fayette Chancellor Emmanuel I. Osagie explains, “We have nearly 400 new students joining our campus family as the fall semester begins on Monday, August 25—a mix of both traditional-age and adult students. It is important that each and every one of them feels welcome and that they know that our entire faculty and staff is here to help and guide them to success. Each of these students has an opportunity to make a mark on the world, and we are glad and honored that they chose to partner with Penn State Fayette as they pursue their higher education.”
Guest speakers at the Convocation included Student Government Association President Shawn Shrum, 2008 Penn State Fayette graduate Bill Hugland, and 2008 Teaching Excellence Award recipient Dr. Danielle Mitchell.
