Commencement services to be held at Penn State Fayette May 17

5/13/2008 —
Commencement services will be held May 17, beginning at 10 a.m. in the main arena of the Community Center, at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. Some 150 graduates are expected to participate.

The commencement speaker will be Debra K. Brede, Penn State alumnus and president of D.K. Brede Investment Management Company of Needham, Mass., a firm she founded in 1989. Brede has more than 25 years of financial experience, and has served on the System Advisory Board of the Boston Stock Exchange and was chairman of the District Economic Education Committee for the Security Industry Association. In March 2006 Brede was named by Boston Magazine as one of the top 20 high-end investment managers in the Boston area and Barron’s named her as one of the Top 100 Women Financial Advisors in the country for 2006 and 2007. In 2007, Brede was named as one of America’s Top 50 Independent Advisors by Registered Rep Magazine. As seen in Forbes Magazine, Goldline Research named her as one of the Ten Most Dependable Wealth Managers of the Northeast. Brede is a 2007 graduate from the Harvard Business School Owners-Presidents Management Program, and is a 1978 graduate of Penn State University, with a B.S. in Biology.

Among Penn State Fayette’s 2008 graduates are a mother and daughter, and two husband and wife pairs:

  • Deborah Yanosky will be graduating with a bachelor of science degree in nursing, as her daughter Angela Yanosky receives an associate of science in nursing. Deborah Yanosky says, “It’s been tough at times. We both needed to study and do paperwork on the computer at the same time. But other times it has been a blessing. Angela’s younger and familiar with the computer and has helped me out, while I could help her out with nursing questions because that’s my profession.” The Yanosky family lives in Uniontown.
  • Amy and Andrew Vinoverski of West Leisenring are graduating together—Amy receiving an associate degree in human development and family studies, and Andrew receiving a bachelor’s degree in English. Amy Vinoverski says, “It’s good to share this moment together in our lives. It is so worth it to go through it together.”
  • Kristen and Anthony Kostandinu of Lemont Furnace also are receiving degrees together on Saturday. Both earned associate degrees in letters, arts, and sciences. Kristen Kostandinu says, “It made it extra special to earn our degrees together. We usually do everything together, so it was another one of those things.”

Recent Penn State Fayette faculty retiree, Dr. Nathan Viswanathan, former professor of chemistry, will be the commencement marshal.
