Penn State Fayette's Lynn Petko wins Evelyn Hovanec Creative Writing Award

Lynn Petko, an instructor at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, was presented the 2007 Evelyn Hovanec Creative Writing Award in early May for her short story, “The Garden.” The award was established by Wolford and Lenore Swimmer in honor of Dr. Evelyn Hovanec when Hovanec retired in 2001 after 35 years of teaching at Penn State Fayette and Penn State McKeesport (now called Greater Allegheny). Hovanec taught English and American Studies, is one of the co-founders of the Coal and Coke Heritage Center, and is known for her scholarship and writing related to Fayette County and southwestern Pennsylvania. The 2007 award winner, Petko has taught English at Penn State Fayette for the past 20 years.
