Public invited to Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Jan. 22

A multi-part program open to the public is scheduled January 22 at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus to celebrate and commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. The celebration begins at 11:30 a.m. in Swimmer Hall in the Williams Building.
The schedule of events includes:
• Performance by vocalist Terrence Jackson
• Welcome from Penn State Fayette Chancellor Emmanuel Osagie
• Proclamation by Fayette County Commissioner Angela Zimmerlink
• Performance by Pittsburgh Dance Ensemble
• Junior and senior high school awards will be presented for exceptional achievement in academics, athletics, community service, and the performing arts
• Poetry reading
The Pittsburgh Dance Ensemble is one of Pittsburgh’s earliest modern dance companies. The ensemble combines a variety of dance styles, including modern dance, ballet, jazz, hip-hop and ethnic dance. The group was introduced to Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania in July 2003, and its members range from high school age to professional-level artists.
On the actual Martin Luther King Day holiday date, January 21, Penn State Fayette students (who have a day off from classes) will gather to have a “Day On” to perform community service.
The Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at Penn State Fayette is sponsored by the campus’ Diversity Task Force.
