Historian Richard Grimes will present a lecture in Swimmer Hall:"Planting the Seeds of a Nation: The Western Delaware Indians and the Seven Years' War"
Historian Richard Grimes will present a lecture in Swimmer Hall in the Williams Building on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. Please come and enjoy this cultural event celebrating American Indian History Month. Encourage your students to attend.
The lecture is funded by a Student Activities Fee Grant.
Dr. Grimes researched the history of the migration of Delaware Indians into western Pennsylvania and their subsequent formation of a political community in the era 1730 to 1795 as a doctoral dissertation at WVU. His book on this subject has been accepted for publication by the Oklahoma University Press. The lecture will deal with the French and Indian War, 1754-1763, an aspect of his larger study.
He lives in Pittsburgh and currently teaches history courses, including American Indian history, at WVU.
This is a good opportunity to view the Annual Indian Art Exhibit in the library, then attend the guest lecture.
