UNIONTOWN, PA - Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, has announced the establishment of the Ellen M. Laun Trustee Matching Scholarship.

The award was endowed by the estate of Gertrude B. Rosenburg, mother of the late Ellen Laun, a longtime Fayette campus administrator. Max and Peter Laun, sons of Ellen Laun, were involved in developing the scholarship guidelines.

The Trustee Matching Scholarship program is an ongoing initiative to raise $100 million in private support across the University for new scholarships to help undergraduates who have the greatest financial need. To underscore its commitment to this effort, Penn State's Board of Trustees agreed to match 5 percent of each gift with University funds, and to make these matching funds available to assist students as soon as the donor completes scholarship pledge forms and guidelines. These matching funds will continue in perpetuity in combination with income from the endowment. Trustee Matching Scholarships require a minimum endowment of $50,000.

Ellen Laun served as assistant to the director of acadmic affairs at the Fayette campus, 1979-1986, and as acting director of academic affairs, 1986-1987.nbsp; In 1987 she was appointed the undergraduate studies program coordinator, a position she held until her passing in 1997. She received a B.A. with honors in English from the William Smith College in Geneva, New York, M.A.T. degree from Johns Hopkins University, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English from the University of Pittsburgh.

She was an English teacher prior to becoming an administrator and taught courses in fiction, short stories, poetry, business writing, and writing in the social sciences, among other subjects. nbsp; She also served as the sponsor of the Fayette campus Roaring Lion student newspaper.

The Ellen M. Laun Trustee Matching Scholarship does not require a separate application. Penn State’s Office of Student Aid and the Fayette campus scholarship committee will consider all students’ eligibility for the awards as part of the overall financial aid process.
