Basketball Game
9/2/2005 —


PAULA R. CONGELIO, CPA, began her duties as Director of Finance and Business Services on September 1. Paula was Director of Financial Services at Uniontown Health Resources, Inc.

DR. IRA S. SALTZ, our new Director of Academic Affairs, began his duties on June 1, 2005. Dr. Saltz came to us from the University of Central Arkansas.

Dr. Terry Halfhill, Assistant Professor of Business and the Eberly Fellow in Business, comes to us from Penn State New Kensington.

Mr. Michael Tarasan began his duties as the night foreman in the Tech Services Department on September 1, 2005.


During the next several months, we will be talking about upgrading our intercollegiate athletic programs. We currently offer men’s baseball (CCAC champs last year), women’s volleyball, men’s basketball, and women’s softball. We hope to add men’s golf and women’s basketball in 2006-2007 academic year.

I am pleased to report that Penn State Fayette has been chosen as a site to provide supervision for student teachers in the area of physical health education. Dr. Sandy Smith will be coordinating this activity on campus.

Dr. Sandy Smith received an undergraduate education retention grant from the University for $4,500 to provide academic assistance to our student athletes.


Sponsored by McMillen Engineering, members of the Penn State Fayette Student Branch and Engineering Explorer Post 614 attended ASHRAE’s 2005 Winter Meeting and toured a heating operations and transmission district facility in Washington, DC.

Guest Commentary

Frank D. Georgiana, Jr., Library Assistant I, has had two articles published as a “Guest Commentary” in the Editorial Section of the Uniontown Herald Standard Newspaper. The first, entitled, “Steroid Use Fact of Life in Modern Athletics” was published on July 6th and the second article, “Gene Therapy” ran on August 27th.
