Below is a list of EMS, first aid and CPR courses offered by the Center for Community and Public Safety at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. If you are interested in any course, please contact the Center at 724-430-4217.

Emergency Medical Service

Emergency Medical Technician: This course provides a foundation in pre-hospital emergency medical service care. The curriculum meets or exceeds all the minimum training requirements as established by the United States Department of Transportation in the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic National Standard Curriculum. Textbooks and NRMET examination fee are not included. Prerequisite: age 16.

Cost: $375.00

Paramedic: This course provides understanding of the purpose and objectives of clinical treatments. As students are instructed in the theoretical practice of emergency medicine, they participate in various supervised clinical experiences. The curriculum of the paramedic training program meets or exceeds the minimum training requirements as established by the United States Department of Transportation in the EMT/Paramedic: National Standard Curriculum. Textbooks and NREMT examination fees are not included. Prerequisites: age 18, high school or GED diploma, valid PA EMT certification, and valid Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers card. Paramedic students must complete and/or provide verification of the following prior to admission: registration form, payment, current PA EMT certification, current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification,high school diploma or GED, malpractice liability insurance, ALS service internship, physical examination, Hepatitis B vaccine or waiver, TB testing, PA DOH criminal history form.

Cost: $2,000.00 (PA residents)

$2,500.00 (out-of-state residents)

Paramedic Refresher:  This course is required for paramedics seeking to fulfill the NREMT's 56-hour continuing education requirement.

Cost: $175.00

Emergency Medical Responder:  This course was developed to provide training in emergency medical care for those who are apt to be the first person to arrive at an accident or emergency scene. Many manufacturers and other companies are training their personnel at the Emergency Medical Responder level due to injuries that happen on a daily basis. Prerequisite: age 16

Cost: $195.00

Emergency Medical Technician - Instructor:  This is a 48-hour class that teaches the student how to conduct a emergency medical services class. This instructor course meets or exceeds the required curriculum for EMT Instructor-National Education Standard and is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The student will learn the different learning styles and tips on classroom presentation. CPR instructor is also included in this class.

First Aid and CPR

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS): This course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages and is intended for participants who care for patients in a wide variety of settings. Cost does not include a textbook.

CPR Instructor Course:

Cost: $160.00 (includes a textbook)

Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS):  AHA has created the new Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) course. This course is offered to EMTs and paramedics who infrequently see critically ill children and prepares students to Assess-Categorize-Decide-Act to stabilize the child and contact the next level of care early.

Heartsaver First Aid: This course is designed to provide the skills to furnish temporary patient assistance and care until professional medical care is provided. Cost does not include a textbook.

Cost: $35.00

Heartsaver First Aid with CPR/AED: This course teaches the skills of first aid, CPR, and AED for victims of all ages.

Cost: $70.00
