The 2SC major is designed primarily to provide for the basic educational needs of students who want to pursue professional programs in various science-, agriculture-, environment-, and medically-related fields.
This is an optimal time to begin a career in science as the number of students entering in science programs across the United states have declined significantly. Students who graduate with an associate degree in science from Penn State Fayette typically complete their four-year baccalaureate degree at another Penn State University location. There are many opportunities for science graduates, including graduate school, medical school, law school, government, and private industry.
The program offers sufficient flexibility to meet diverse academic and career goals. For example, business majors who would like to have a science background can use the 2SC program to supplement their programs. Graduates of the program may qualify for admission to baccalaureate degrees in science or for work in scientific and research laboratories.
In addition to enrolling in traditional science classes at Penn State Fayette, students also have the opportunity to be involved in biology research projects under the mentorship of a research advisor. These projects can count as college credit and also lead to undergraduate student authorship as well as presentations given at local and national science conferences.
